The programme "Modernization of the fairway, expansion of quays and improvement of navigation conditions in the Inner Port", carried out by the Port of Gdańsk Authority, covered the reconstruction of nearly 5 km of quays (including Oliwskie, Ziółkowskiego, Obrońców Poczty Polskiej, Mew, Zbożowe, Wisłoujście, Dworzec Drzewny, and sections of the Wiślane, Szczecińskie and BON quays) and over 7 km of the Inner Port fairway. Implementation began in 2016, and its conclusion took place on 27 June 2022. The total cost exceeded PLN 595 million, of which 85 percent was financed by the European Union through the CEF (Connecting Europe Facility) instrument.

Significance

The modernization improved the navigational parameters of the fairway and raised the permissible draught of vessels entering the Inner Port. In the Port Canal, vessels of up to 250 m in length, 35 m in width and 10.6 m in draught can be handled, which increased navigation safety and the accessibility of the quays for larger vessels.
