Modernization of line No. 201 Maksymilianowo – Gdynia (coal trunk line, access to the Port of Gdynia)
A comprehensive modernization, expansion and electrification of railway line No. 201 on the Maksymilianowo – Kościerzyna – Gdynia section (the historic coal trunk line). The programme includes the construction of a second track along most of the route, electrification, the reconstruction of Maksymilianowo station and the construction of a third track on the Gdańsk Osowa – Gdynia Główna section in order to increase the capacity of the freight corridor to the Port of Gdynia. The works are being carried out in stages. Contracts for successive sections are being signed and announced, including the Wierzchucin – Lipowa Tucholska section (contract of approx. PLN 915 million) and section C Gdańsk Osowa – Gdynia Główna (estimated value of over PLN 1.3 billion). Investor: PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe.

Significance
The modernization and electrification of the coal trunk line is intended to increase the capacity and speed of freight traffic towards the Port of Gdynia and to shorten passenger train journey times. Once the works are completed, the line will be double-track and electrified along the entire Maksymilianowo – Gdynia route, and triple-track on the Gdańsk Osowa – Gdynia Główna section, which will improve connections between the Tricity and the region as well as the handling of cargo at the port.
