Izera is the brand of the first Polish electric car, developed by the company ElectroMobility Poland S.A. (controlled by the State Treasury), established on 19 October 2016. The brand was officially presented on 28 July 2020, and the factory was planned in Jaworzno in the Śląskie Voivodeship, with series production originally announced for the third quarter of 2023. The deadlines were successively postponed (to 2024, and then to the fourth quarter of 2025), and the project – based partly on the platform of China's Geely – failed to secure financing. On 17 December 2024, the Minister of State Assets Jakub Jaworowski announced the end of the Izera project. After years of work and more than PLN 580 million in spending, neither the factory nor a finished vehicle was produced. The company redirected its activities towards building a production and development hub in Jaworzno with a new brand and the Taiwanese partner Foxconn (a separate successor project).

Why it failed

The Izera project, run by the company ElectroMobility Poland S.A. (majority State Treasury-owned) since 2016, aimed to launch production of the first Polish electric car at a factory in Jaworzno. Series production was originally planned for the third quarter of 2023, and was then postponed to 2024 and the fourth quarter of 2025. The project, which was based in part on the platform of the Chinese group Geely, failed to secure full financing by the end of 2023 and was suspended; a change of government and audits followed. On 17 December 2024, the Minister of State Assets Jakub Jaworowski announced the end of the Izera project, which was confirmed in April 2025 by the company's new CEO Tomasz Kędzierski. By the time the project was closed, with spending exceeding PLN 580 million, no factory or finished Izera-brand vehicle had been produced. The company's activity was redirected towards building a production hub in Jaworzno with a new brand and the Taiwanese partner Foxconn – this is a separate, successor undertaking.

Significance

The closure of the Izera project meant that, after nearly a decade of work and more than PLN 580 million in public outlays, Poland gained neither its own electric car brand, nor a factory in Jaworzno, nor a finished vehicle. Public funds committed since 2016 did not translate into production, and the original deadlines for its launch (Q3 2023) were postponed multiple times. The experience and resources of ElectroMobility Poland were redirected towards a new model of cooperation with a foreign partner (Foxconn) in Jaworzno, constituting a separate, later undertaking.
