Barrier on the Poland–Belarus border (physical barrier + electronic barrier)
A permanent security installation on the border with Belarus, built under a special act in force since 4 November 2021. It consists of a physical barrier – a 5.5 m high steel fence along 186 km of the border (contracts with Budimex and the Unibep/Budrex consortium signed on 4 January 2022, works from January 2022, original deadline 30 June 2022) – and an electronic barrier: a system of approximately 3 thousand day-night and thermal imaging cameras and 400 km of detection cables operating along 206 km of the border, whose formal acceptance was completed on 15 June 2023. The cost of the entire investment is approximately PLN 1.6 billion. In July 2024, modernisation contracts were signed: reinforcement of the physical barrier's spans (over PLN 117 million, Polimex Mostostal) and modernisation of the electronic barrier (over PLN 125 million, Telbud).

Significance
The barrier is the main permanent security installation along the section of the border with Belarus guarded by the Podlaski Border Guard Regional Unit: 186 km of 5.5 m high steel fence is complemented by a perimeter system operating along 206 km of the border. The government presented the investment as an element of protecting NATO's eastern flank under conditions of migratory pressure from Belarus. The installation continues to be developed after completion (reinforcement of spans, modernisation of the camera system using alarm classification) and precedes a broader eastern border fortification programme (Tarcza Wschód).
