Regional Competence Centre for Abrams Tanks at WZM Poznań

The Regional Competence Centre (RCK) for Abrams tanks was established at Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne S.A. in Poznań and officially opened on 20 February 2024. The centre provides servicing, repairs, overhauls, and future modifications and upgrades of Abrams-family tanks (M1A1 FEP and M1A2 SEPv3) being acquired for the Polish Armed Forces, and is ultimately intended also to service the vehicles of U.S. forces stationed in Poland and other European countries, as well as those of other European Abrams operators. In 2025 a new production hall of 20,000 m² was brought into use, and the first training of Polish specialists began in June 2025.

Significance

The centre builds domestic and regional capacity to service and overhaul Abrams tanks, reducing dependence on sending equipment abroad and shortening servicing time and cost. Its role extends beyond the Polish fleet: it is intended to become a regional MRO base for U.S. forces operating Abrams tanks in Europe and for other European states operating these tanks, strengthening the position of the Polish defence industry and the logistical security of NATO's eastern flank.
