The investment did not come to fruition: the Regional Director for Environmental Protection in Gorzów Wielkopolski discontinued the proceedings on the environmental decision for the open-pit mine, which effectively closed the path to construction.
In 2019, the Regional Director for Environmental Protection in Gorzów Wielkopolski issued a decision discontinuing the proceedings on the environmental decision for the open-pit lignite mine, after the investor failed to supplement the required documentation on time. This meant the effective end of the project – the open-pit mine in Gubin will not be built.

Building the open-pit mine would have meant the displacement of up to 3,000 people and the demolition of 15 localities, as well as the demolition of valuable historic monuments. The abandonment of the investment is presented by residents and environmental organizations as a success, and the region retained its existing land use.
