Intel planned to build a semiconductor integration and test facility in the municipality of Miękinia near Wrocław – an investment worth up to USD 4.6 billion, with approximately 2,000 jobs, one of the largest announced foreign investments in Polish history. The project was announced in June 2023, was paused for approximately two years in September 2024, and in July 2025 Intel ultimately announced it would not continue with it as part of a cost-cutting and production-capacity consolidation program. Construction never began.

Why it failed

The project, announced in June 2023, was paused by Intel in September 2024 for approximately two years due to the company's financial situation and lower-than-expected demand. In July 2025, Intel announced that it would not continue its planned projects in Poland and Germany, citing an earlier excessive pace of investment without corresponding demand as well as a program of cost reduction and consolidation of its production base. Construction of the plant never began.

Significance
