ESA Centre for Civil Security and Resilience in Warsaw

A new European Space Agency (ESA) centre in Warsaw focused on civil security and resilience. It was announced on 13 July 2026 by Prime Minister Donald Tusk and ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher at the Copernicus Science Centre, following a Letter of Intent signed in November 2025 at ESA's Council at Ministerial Level (CM25) in Bremen. The centre is to focus on Earth observation, satellite communications, monitoring of critical incidents (natural disasters), border surveillance, and research into dual-use (civil-military) technologies. It will be the first ESA centre in Central and Eastern Europe and the first outside the agency's 11 founding countries from 1975. Pre-operational activities are set to begin from 2027. No budget for the centre itself was announced; separately, the government announced a fund of up to PLN 500 million (about EUR 116 million) for space-sector investments.
