Rożnów II Pumped-Storage Power Plant

Construction of the Rożnów II pumped-storage power plant on Lake Rożnów, adjacent to the existing Rożnów Hydroelectric Power Plant, in the Łososina Dolna municipality in Nowy Sącz County (Małopolskie Voivodeship). The investor is TAURON Polska Energia. In the baseline variant the plant is to reach a capacity of approx. 767 MW and approx. 3.1 GWh of storage capacity (usable volume of the upper reservoir 7.7 million m³, with an option to increase it to 11.5 million m³), which would make it one of the largest energy storage facilities in Poland – alongside PGE's planned Młoty pumped-storage plant (1,050 MW / approx. 4.1 GWh). Lake Rożnów is to serve as the lower reservoir, and the upper reservoir is to be built on elevations on the southern shore of the lake; approx. 70-80% of the land required for the investment is covered by lease agreements. The estimated cost of the investment is approx. PLN 6.8 billion (media report approx. PLN 7 billion). The project was announced publicly in October 2024, together with the completion of the first stage of preparatory works (preliminary feasibility study, securing of land, grid connection application). At the end of November 2025 the project obtained grid connection conditions from the TSO PSE (800 MW connection capacity), and the process of obtaining an environmental decision was started. On 13 July 2026 the Ministry of Energy and TAURON signed a letter of intent on supporting the construction of pumped-storage plants; the investment decision is planned for 2028, conditional on a support scheme being in place, with delivery in 2028-2033.
